Raise money for us simply by doing something you enjoy - having your friends round for dinner!
Just go to www.dinner4good.com/GladsHouse and you'll see it couldn't be easier to Host a Dinner.
You start by creating a personalised "Dinner Page" on the Dinner4Good website (takes about 5 minutes) and then email invitations will be automatically sent from the site. Your guests then accept and donate online, which means you can see who's coming and how much is being raised - in a click. It reduces the awkwardness of asking for money and no there's no hassle with collecting cash. Dinner4Good takes care of everything, including the Gift Aid application - so all you have to do is eat, drink and enjoy yourselves!

Tell your friends over dinner about the cause they've donated to and they might also want to hold a Dinner4Good of their own - so the good goes on and on!
AIBA Women World Boxing Championships Barbados 2010 This year's event will take place from September 6th to the 19th and is the first time the competition is being held since the IOC’s decision to include women’s boxing in the Olympic Games. Boxing has always been a big part of our partner organisation (MOYO) activities, Bokey (street slang for 'boxer') is a past Olympic boxing contender to represent Kenya at the Olympics. He is now a national coach and we recently funded a training camp for the girls in readiness for September. One of our Caddies, Mary Mwatu has a good chance of representing Kenya at the forthcoming championships.

Papasa Update Since we purchased our plot of land for our refuge (once fundraising has been successful) Bokey and the boys have turned it into a compound and have built some temporary accommodation, 'classroom/mess hall' kitchen and toilets. They are really making this area a real 'street kids' meeting place! See the ful picture story on Flikr

Glad's House were at the first Golf Live Event held at Stoke Park again promoting the charity plus our Glad's House Caddies programme at Vipingo Ridge and telling everyone about our FirstGolfKenya opportunity. We are planning a seminar for potential investors when we are all in Mombasa during August. We had some interesting visitors, including George O'Grady the Chief Executive of the European Tour, who was particularly interested in how our Glad's House Caddies programme was doing, as this is partially funded by the tours charitable foundation - the Tour Players Foundation. Sir Steve Redgrave, a keen golfer, was also very interested in our scheme which has now taken 43 young people out of the city and are now working full-time as caddies at Vipingo Ridge.

4th September 2009 The Pro-Assist Charity Golf Day
Another great day of golf with our unique ‘pro-assist’ format proving a great success with many of the teams taking advantage of having a ‘mini-playing lesson’ from the golf professionals who joined them for a few holes around the course. The afternoon barbeque was a real treat with a Kenyan band providing the entertainment.
25th August 2009 “The Chelsea Legends Challenge”
Our 5 a side football tournament, featuring ‘The Chelsea Legends’. 20 teams play some hard and entertaining football to win the right to challenge the legends! The final was very exciting with the Chelsea legends putting on a stalwart show. We were also entertained by Kaos Football plus a great boxing session of sparing. The legends were simply marvellous, thanks for all your efforts.

11th August 2009 “Can you beat Besant?”
On August 11th 2009 hundreds of people, young and old, arrived at Spitalfields Market to take a penalty against the Chelsea and England legend Dave Beasant. Each penalty taker paid £1 and some spilled out more than once determined to ‘Beat Beasant’. Other guests included Paul Canoville, Trevor Nelson and Rocket Long who also lined up to take a penalty against the mighty Beasant! A big thank you goes to Dave who did an amazing job of throwing himself around on a rather hard floor, it is much appreciated! A big thank you also has to go to Spitalfields market for supporting the event.
3rd June 2009 Petanque Evening - Our fund raising evening with a difference was held on Wednesday 3rd June at Spitalfields Market, London. Fourteen teams gathered after work, one team even travelling from Norwich for our Petanque Challenge. We started the evening with a splendid charcuterie, cheese and wine spread put on by Le Bouchon and then battle commenced. Great fun seemed to be had by all and there was much rivalry in the air! Our thanks go especially to Bruce Rowland who made the whole evening possible and ran the Challenge with great professionalism. Also for their hospitality, our thanks to both Andrew Sparrow of Spitalfields Market and Frederic Ollier of Le Bouchon Restaurant.
8th May 2009 The Hickory Golf Team Challenge
Once again this 1930’s style golf event, playing with genuine antique hickory shafted golf clubs (all provided) proved a terrific success. We had a vintage car display, entertainment from the traditional jazz ‘Grandpa Spells’ and a late afternoon barbeque rounded off a great day.
16th May 2009 The Elliot Cooper Memorial Tournament. Glad's House was honoured to receive a very special memorial donation in January 2009 from the parents of a young man, Elliot Cooper aged 17, who passed away very suddenly whilst playing the game he loved. An avid football player, Elliot had seen Glad's House on Soccer AM and had expressed a wish to his parents that he would like to join us on our next football fortnight in Mombasa. Following this donation, in May 2009, Clive Pilgrim who had been Elliot's Football Coach for many years organised a Memorial Tournament. The teams that Elliot had played for including his school gathered together with their supporters. Although the day was filled with sadness the games were played with much spirit and Glad's House had a great day meeting the family and friends of Elliot. After the tournament an auction and raffle were held both of which were supported with great enthusiasm and Hewett School Team were presented with the Winners Trophy. Because of the special nature of this donation, we chose after liaising with Elliot's parents to use some of the funds to send 16 Street Boys together with 4 Adults on a four day break up country on the Elliot Cooper Memorial Trip. From a tragic event, Glad's House has found a wonderful new set of friends and supporters and we look forward to spending time with them again soon.
