We are ‘partnering’ with MOYO, - The Mombasa Olympic Youth Organisation which, has been set up by a former Kenyan Olympic athlete, Fred (Bokey) Achola to give these young people that help. He is using sport to reach this vulnerable group, to give them information, motivation and support to help them steer clear of drugs and crime and avoid HIV infection. So far we have been able to start a boxing team, (also known as the Havana Amateur Boxing club), youth soccer teams for boys and girls and a volleyball team. Our boxing team uses a local social hall for practice from five in the evening on Mondays through to Fridays while the soccer,
volleyball and rugby teams use the open ground of the Moi International Airport.
MOYO are still desperately short of any real ‘kit’, so if you have any donations they will be truly welcomed. (Any thoughts/expertise on low cost transport to Kenya would also be extremely useful). In August 2006 Glad’s House sponsored ‘Bokey’ to attend a boxing coaching course (organized by the Cuban Boxing Team) in Nairobi – he is now a certified coach.
